We are afraid that despite the best efforts of the Parish Council and the Bailiffs we have not been able to remove the Travellers from Holyport Green.
This was mainly due to a lack of support from the local Police who refused to support the issuing of a Section 61 order which would have allowed the Police to actively direct trespassers to leave a site. This was reportedly due to a lack of anti-social behaviour and criminality. If residents have experienced any of the above, it is essential to report it the police on 101 or if it is an emergency 999.
Without that support of the Police the Bailiffs are powerless to do much more and were requested to stand down by the Police.
Our only option is to seek a court order, but that might not be achievable before their intended leaving day of Thursday.
We know this is an unsettling and concerning situation, the Bailiff team have advised residents to please avoid engaging with the travellers and report any ASB or criminality directly to the police in a timely manner.
It is very disappointing that we have not been supported in removing an illegal and unauthorised encampment on our land. We will keep you updated, but please ensure the community reports any issues.
