The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is launching a consulting on a proposal to upgrade the A308 Windsor Road / Holyport Road junction, optimising traffic flow and improving road safety for all road users.

The mini roundabout junction has reached its natural capacity and needs upgrading to keep traffic moving optimally and safely. The existing mini roundabout will be removed, and a traffic light system would be installed at the junction.

Traffic from Maidenhead on the A308 will continue to have a second approach lane for traffic turning right into Holyport Road, with dedicated time within the light sequence for traffic to turn right. Signalised crossings will be introduced at each set of traffic lights, to give better access to the bus stops and improved facilities for walking. The shared footway on the north side of the A308 will be upgraded to feature separate spaces for walking and cycling, and cycles will have access to join and leave this facility to/from Holyport Road.

This proposed scheme will bring benefits to road users with better management of traffic movements at this junction helping to minimise the risk of conflicts, as well as creating safer and easier crossing points for walking and cycling – something the current roundabout does not have.

An overview of the proposed scheme is attached. Alternatively, documents can be viewed in person at Maidenhead, Dedworth or Windsor libraries.
