Changing the size of text

Press CTRL key and + key together to make everything on this site appear bigger.  Press CTRL key and  key together to make everything on this site appear smaller.

You can also use your browser to make the text on this site larger or smaller.  For example, if you are using Internet Explorer you can click on “View” from the standard toolbar at the top of your screen, then select “Text Size”. You will then be able to make the text “larger” or “largest” or “smaller” or smallest”.  If you are using Firefox you can click “View” in the toolbar and select “Zoom”. If you make the text size larger, the pages will become longer and you will need to scroll down further to reach the bottom of the page.

W3C Compliance

The website has been designed to comply with the guidelines issued by W3C/WAI.

Visual design

  • Colours – We have tried to use colours throughout the Web site that provide maximum contrast between foreground and background items and also various features on the page including headers, body text and hyperlinks.
  • Images – All graphics and images throughout the Web site have been assigned an Alt-text attribute, which describes the contents or function of the item.
  • Hyperlinks – We have chosen high contrast colours for all active hyperlink text items to make them accessible and recognisable.
  • CSS – Style-sheets have been used for all visual items and text.

Translation

Should you wish to translate any of our web pages, use the “select language” drop down at the bottom of any page to use the free Google translation service.

The Breadcrumb Trail

We use a navigational aid on all of our web pages known as a breadcrumb trail. The breadcrumb trail is a set of clickable links which enables you to trace where you are within the website. It also tells users who join the website from a search engine, whereabouts they are within the website. As you move through the website, a link is added to the Breadcrumb Trail at each level. The Breadcrumb Trail is located in the page title bar at the top of every page and looks something like this: Home > Local Information > Tennis Courts.

Searching This Site

If you cannot find what you want by visiting one of the sections above you can try using our Search facility by clicking the magnifying glass icon which is in the top right hand corner of each page in the navigation menu.

You can also use www.google.co.uk to search only our site by entering site:brayparishcouncil.co.uk followed by a space and then your search term. For example, if you wanted to search the BPC website for planning information you would enter site:brayparishcouncil.co.uk planning into the google search box.

You can click on the “Contact” link from the top of every page to see the different ways you can contact the council.

The site map is available from the top of every page and provides an overview of the site’s structure and a breakdown of each section and its relevant sub-sections.

AbilityNet offers support and information to anyone with a disability of impairment to help improve their access to digital technology. Advice for users of different operating systems can also be found at Microsoft and Apple.

Content that does not fall within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Some of our older PDFs and Word documents may not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We will however, endeavour to update older PDFs and any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to any live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
